Anyone else seeing big changes with their electricity bill this month? The new bill has the usage for electricity broken down to on-peak, off-peak, and super off-peak. Apparently my household uses the most energy super off-peak (that is when I do all of our laundry). Anyway, my three bedroom, two bathroom house (with a granny flat of one bedroom, one bathroom - - 3 adults and 2 children in total) went from a March bill of $115 to an April bill of under $60. That's about what I paid in electricity when my wife and I were in a 1-1 apartment back in 2006.

I don't want to get my hopes up with this.

Well, not to burst your bubble, but April is when we get our Carbon tax rebate and the rebate this April was a lot more than last year's. It certainly was more than the March rebate, because we don't get a rebate in March.

If your rebate was the same $65 I got, your April bill was $125. Plus, at least for me, the Time of Use didn't kick in until April 6 so it's likely that only a few days were charged at the Time of Use rate.

Tell us what your May bill is like and compare it to May 2018. That will be the true comparison.

For us the difference between all three plans was pretty much a joke. We are giving it a go but we'll see. I'm installing timers on some outlets so they don't get power to devices from 2 - 9 pm. Solar is the best alternative but that will have to wait till next year when we can buy it outright.

We looked at the new pricing, and there is absolutely nothing we could do to make it any less costly for us. Allegedly you can "choose your pricing plan" at the SDG&E website. Hah! . All except not changing your plan at all!

DH phoned them and specified they were *not* to change us to any of their new price plans. (The person he spoke with agreed there didn't seem to be any advantage to us to change.)

My bill was only $25 last month. Maybe I wasn't home a lot or I like to sit in the dark too often

This may not be the best time of year to compare, since the days are much longer and there hasn't been any need for heat and A/C. Come mid-July, I'm pretty sure the news stations will be covering the bill-shocked homeowners as they start firing up the A/C.

Stayed with the old plan. Don’t trust SDG&E. And they’re asking for a 4% increase next year.

I chose Time of Use pricing. According to my bill I saved 12 cents, or just a smidge under 1% on the electric only portion of my bill. $14.68 v $14.80.

Over the course of 70 years I'll save $100!

They said that if your prices went up you could change to a different plan and they’d refund the extra you paid. I’m skeptical about the refund, but who knows.

Our new plan starts in June.
