A man in Southern California died after getting pinned between his car and the machinery of a car wash.

The Escondido Police Department said in a statement that they received a call about an "unresponsive man inside of a self-service car wash" late Friday evening on the 2100 block of East Valley Parkway.

The report I saw said that the man, for some reason, opened his door and got out of his car while it was in the car wash. He left his car in Drive and it pinned him between the machine and his car. The car wash machine hadn’t even started yet.

Sad but completely preventable.

Is this a story just because it happened in the car wash? Because I don't think it's all that rare that people get run over, dragged or crushed by their own vehicles. It's not that hard to do, which is what makes it so unfortunate when it happens. Preventable, yeah. But an easy mistake to make.

edit: Also, most of the news coverage of this present the reason he got out as "unknown" as if it's a huge mystery. In the old days, it would've made sense to do something like that to retract an antenna. I'm guessing this guy hopped out to secure something on his car in a similar fashion.
