me and a buddy of mine plan on going to Palomar College and getting an apartment in the San Marcos Area. We are looking at some places in Vista but this one place that looks really good is called Rancho Vallecitos on Nordahl Road. I was wondering if this area was safe and San Marcos in general if it is safe. I would just be a college student not bothering anyone there so i know i wont be getting in any trouble I just need a safe area. Also how is the job market there for a college student? I would need a job out there to pay rent.

San Marcos is hit or miss. If you stay closer to the university, it's not that bad. I'm not an expert on those areas....as I grew up in Encinitas. I just turned 20 (wow!) and some of my friends go there and I can tell you that my friends' parents, who are quite wealthy, wouldn't pay for their kids to live in an apartment near San Marcos state if they thought it wasn't safe.

I say you're fine, but stay close to the university. San Marcos has it's shady areas, but it's not nearly as bad as Escondido (Esconghehtto), Vista or Oceanside. Escondido has some beautiful areas north of town and near lake hodges but I have a grudge against Escondidio has I had my car broken into in broad daylight.
