Hi! My home fell victim to storm surge in September and we lost everything we owned. After getting through the initial nervous breakdown, the cleanup, the insurance nonsense, and a separation from my worthless husband, I've decided to follow my heart and instincts and make the move to California I've been talking about for years. My son graduates HS in June and has been accepted into the Air Force!! YEA! That leaves my daughter and myself and after many hours of research, I've narrowed it down to Poway. I think. Quality of schools is a primary deciding factor for me, as is the overall conservative nature of the residents. I'm a bookkeeper, so I'm not too worried about finding work, though it would be nice to find something in town.

Any advice or helpful suggestion?

Thank you.

My sister lives in Poway and is a teacher. They moved there b/c at that time (don't know if it's still true) that was THE best school district in SD County. So you chose right there! I am not sure as to how conservative it is. CA as a whole is pretty liberal. But if I had to guess, I'd guess Poway is more conservative than, say, the beach areas.

As to finding work there in town, that is a small town. The financial centers are more UTC/La Jolla and downtown. But downtown from Poway (depending on traffic) is about 30 minutes. Maybe 40 depending how far into Poway and off the freeway you are.

Good luck, and welcome to CA!!

Poway is a good choice. Good schools and a highly conservative area.
