It is counterintuitive to think we have bad air quality.

However, thinking about it the air quality is not that good. There is sort of an unpleasant smell to the air including near the ocean.

I don't think you understand what that word means at all. When presented with proven data that says San Diego is consistently in the top 10 WORST areas for air pollution, it's not counter-intuitive to conclude that the air quality is bad. It's pretty much as intuitive as something can be.

San Diego's air quality is fine.

Apparently, some of the posters really need to get out of this country. To me, San Diego being in the top 10 worst metros for air quality is the equivalent of Osaka being in the top worst Japanese cities for crime.

First world problems....

If you don't like it, don't live here! Otherwise, get over it.

Yes... comparing apples to oranges. The coastline around Chula Vista may smell bad if the breeze is blowing eastward, but I still remember the horrible stench that Southworks Steel was putting out when I lived in Chicago. Until they shut all of the steel mills down, THAT was what you called air pollution!

I think that person means microclimate matters.

Totally agree on your other comment.

Top 10 worst? I go out running in that stuff almost every day. I grew up in Hawaii and know what clean air is like. What we have in San Diego is good enough for me.

Maybe if you live inland? Since no one lives West of us it's hard to have any type of air pollution. Where we live the wind is straight out of the West and the worse thing on any given day is when there is kelp washed up on the beach. I like the way that smells.
