We will try anything, really. Know a particular place where I can get a durian smoothie? I've only had the actual raw fruit, but never in smoothie form. It's not as bad as people make it out to be!

Actually, if you search for carne asada fries on Yelp in both LA and SF, countless places come up, many with excellent reviews. Taste is subjective. I've had awesome ones at some places, and some really bad ones as well. In fact, I've eaten them in NYC and they were better than the ones here in SD that I tried.

Now, I don't know what makes a hot dog NY style, but I know they have options at this place and it may be worth checking out.

That said, I've never had a better one than the one in front of the American Museum of Natural History

One more questions regarding the hot dogs in this area...is it common to get shredded cheese, unmelted on your hot dog if you ask for cheese? Happened twice already. We're used to melted cheese and they just open up a bag and pour cold cheese on top of the hot dog. Not exactly appetizing.

Looks like I'm wrong 4X already today... and it's only 3:30pm!

We had free hot dogs last nite at the OB Restaurant Walk. Not sure which menu item. They have a unique location and the dogs were good.

TJ after sunset, for whatever reason the TJ hotdog carts only come out at night. And boy can they can hook it up.

The only other hotdog cart I know in SD is in OB on Friday and Saturday nights. They are alright.

I really don't get the hype about NY hot dogs, I had several a few months ago including one at a cart in front of the Natural History Museum as well and I didn't think it was anything special at all. Pretty average, the carts outside the bars in PB on weekends are better than NY's imo. Gray's Papaya hot dogs on the other hand was pretty damn good.

Umm, Gray's Papaya hot dogs ARE NY style hot dogs and exactly what I'm looking for. I was in NYC a couple of weeks ago, and the first stop before hitting my sister's house was GP. There are better carts than others. The ones in front of the museum are catered to tourists, so they are not as good. The guy in front of Yankee stadium is awesome, as is the one near Union Square park in Manhattan. They have awards for best street carts in NYC for a reason.
