Since SD is OK-to-good for Chinese cuisine and I'm now in New York City on holiday, where (specific Chinese restaurant recommendations) can I get some very good-to-excellent New York Chinese cuisine?

Thanks Sass., that indeed looks very good. Anything in the less expensive category (though I suppose I should live it up pre New Years)?

I liked this place in Chinatown called "Big Wong". It's cheap and VERY fast service.

Wu Liang Yi is excellent, reasonable and near Grand Central area. its on 37th and lexington - roughly. A few doors down from Nirvana- a great indian restaurant. I travel to NY about 70% of my time on business and "live" in the Affinia Shelburne hotel a block or so away. This is the "murray hill" area. Mee Noodle shop - there are a few of them around is one of the best noodle houses in town - their dan dan noodles are famous.

I agree with Big Wong. Decor is kinda from an 80s Hong Kong police movie, service is rushed and cold, but food is great. If you have eaten at Jasmine in Kearny Mesa the service is about the same. If softshell crab is available, then order it!
