I'm looking for postal rental that ranges from $7 to $10 a month (not sure if they still have it).

Anyone know where, preferably in the downtown area?

If you want one at a Post Office, use this search.

For a few bucks more a month, I'd consider a UPS Store or Postal Annex box. You get:
1. a real address
2. 24 hr access
3. more locations to choose from
4. a call or email when you get an important delivery

Depends on the location, but the cost can be quite a bit more. Last time I had a UPS store box it was around $15 a month. However, they do accept all packages. But they won't forward anything, so you should not use this as a "permanent" address if you want forwarding of mail in the future.

I noticed that some are cheaper. Carmel Valley is $44/year, although they are all taken.

I recommend Postal Place. They're downtown at 255 G Street, and I've had a PMB there since I moved to San Diego. They're not a chain like the Postal Annex or UPS Store, therefore boxes cost less. Their small PMB's are $120/year, $62/six months, and I think $42/month. You won't find anything for $7-$10 per month, anywhere. You're better off with a PMB.
