My family would like to do a beach vacation in San Diego this summer. It has been a long time since I have visited the area and I started to do online research but I quickly suffered info overload. So I'm turning to SD residents to give me advice: What are the nicest SD area beaches to visit with young children?

I would also like to stay in a Marriott property because I have frequent stayer points to spend. If you know of a particularly nice Marriott near the beaches in San Diego, please let me know.

Thank you!

Don't know about a Marriott, but check out Moonlight beach in Encinitas. I think there is a Best Western up Encinitas Blvd. a few blocks. They have some suites and views of the ocean.

San Diego has several nice Marriott properties but the only one considered to be a resort is the property on Coronado. Here's a link to some reviews of the Marriott Coronado: Coronado Island Marriott Resort - Coronado - Coronado, CA

We also have many nice family beaches. My favorites are La Jolla Shores and Coronado Beach:

The Marriott Coronado is about 2 miles from Coronado Beach.

La Jolla Shores, Coronado, and Del Mar would be my top choices for a nice, family beach.

coronado is a great suggestion. from my experiences, the beaches don't get too crowded (although traffic can be bad) and you're not too far from the downtown area and sea world if you want to venture beyond the beach.

I think there is a Marriott in Carlsbad not far from the beach- this would be accessible to plenty of family friendly beaches.

Also, there's a Courtyard by Marriott on the Coast Highway in Solana Beach, about a block from the ocean and minutes from Del Mar, La Jolla, Encinitas, etc. Even Legoland is just up the road (not sure if that's on your kids' itinerary). Might be a good option too.

Hilton Garden Inn in Carlsbad is close to the beach. But the Courtyard and Residence Inn are a bit inland. Ponto beach is very nice.

My favorite beach for kids to play at is La Jolla Shores. The sandy beach area is relatively wide (goes towards the water quite far) so there's lots of room to splash and build sand castles etc. Lots of other families go there too, so kids sometimes share sand toys and stuff. there's also a playground there too, so when you're tired of the sun and sea, you can go slide and swing, climb structures etc. Food is just one block inland, so that's convenient.
