Several yrs ago I ate at an Italian place in SF that was so good, we went back twice! Of course I can't remember the name or location and it may not even still be there but thought I would give it a shot. All I remember is it was one room with tall ceilings and lots of art work. In fact the artwork was practically covering the walls. The place was popular because they actually had a line outside to get in. It's sad to say but I think it could have been close to a mission or homeless shelter. I kind of remember that too. I plan to be there next month so might want to go back there if anyone knows what place I'm referring to.

If not, how about suggestions? I could also use suggestions for the best seafood place. Can't wait, SF has some of the best food anywhere. Thanks!

No but thanks. It wasn't a deli, it was a restaurant that almost seemed like an art gallery.

Default Italian restaurant

Michelangelo Ristorante & Caffe - North Beach/Telegraph Hill - San Francisco, CA

Michael Angelo ristorante

Mona Lisa Restaurant - North Beach/Telegraph Hill - San Francisco, CA

Mona Lisa Restaurant

Franchino - North Beach/Telegraph Hill - San Francisco, CA

Franchino

Caffe Sport - North Beach/Telegraph Hill - San Francisco, CA

Caffe Sport

I think it might be this one? they have lots of art work on the walls

the restaurant you went to several years ago was probably in North Beach, since thats where most tourists would most likely go for Italian restaurants.

Maybe Delfina on 18th st? If that wasn't it, I'd suggest you go there anyway. Best Italian restaurant in the city. Pricey but worth it. Stay away from the tourist traps in North Beach.

I was going to guess it was that one. Did they serve you red wine in juice glasses while you waited for a table and did they seat you family style with total strangers? If so, I'd say Caffe Sport definitely. Did you seen any photos on the wall of Clint Eastwood? He used to bring his production crew there when he was shooting movies around there (Dirty Harry and Play Misty for Me, were a couple).

It has to be one of those. Don't have time now but I'll check them out later, thank you!

Don't think it was this one, doesn't sound familiar at all but thanks!

Just don't go to the Stinking Rose in North Beach, one of the most over hyped tourist traps around. Terrible.
