I know sarcasm can be hard to detect on internet forums sometimes but geeze, thought those posts about Des Moines and LA were pretty obvious it was a joke.

well to be fair I guess you need to be familiar with Mr Fantastic's trollish posts to get the sarcasm, if you aren't familiar with his posts then consider yourself lucky and try to keep it that way, haha.

Yeah, I've seen them before, but usually skip over them...

I recall that "millions of dollars of damage" in Oakland comment after those Oscar Grant "riots" that petered out after a few hours

I pondered responding to your post by saying that you are simply uneducated in the reading of statistics, but perhaps it's gone far enough

Trolling people, even accidentally, is uncomfortable. I'm not sure how people manage.

People who don't like dealing with the city........ tend to move to the suburbs.
Shocking discovery you made there, bud!

No one who has kids lives in the city (although i do know someone trying and planning on staying there). Most move out because it is just not kid friendly. If you have no kids it is great to be in SF. One of my parents lived there in a couple of places but I went to school East Bay and South Bay.

I think they are both fine, just different needs for different people.

I enjoy taking my kids to the park without finding used condoms around it. I don't like to have to explain time and time again why we only give to homeless people who have pets with them. Things like that.
But when I was younger I lived there and had a great time. Sort of like a mini NYC it gave me energy even when I didn't have any because of all the people out and about.

The trouble with Oakland is that when you get there, there isn't any there there.

Gertrude Stein also said that Hitler deserved the Nobel Peace Prize. Also that Oakland quote is apparently in reference to Stein looking for her old Childhood home in Oakland (she grew up there
), not a disparaging reference about Oakland itself (she died in the 40's and i don't think Oakland was even particularly crime ridden back then, so there wouldn't be as much bashing like there is these days...i could be wrong though).
