Hello,

I am going to move to SF or a near by city next May 2008 after law school. Are there any websites or companies that help new graduates find employment.

So far, I know about legalauthority.com , but I don't know if this site works well in the bay area.

fyi, my plan is to come to California, take the bar next July. Live humbly (poor), and apply for work in small and mid-level law firms.

Your advice would be appreciated.

I'm an exec recruiter but don't have much experience with the legal field. I would suggest posting your resume on CareerBuilder and Monster if you haven't already for starters. Recruiters across all industries and professions use these two sites prolifically. I've heard of legalauthority and that's a good site too. Hopefully you'll get additional responses from people in the legal field or recruiters.

If you do use a placement firm I recommend Robert Half which is top notch in all fields and won't rip you off. It also saves you time as you let them do the research for you.

When I was heavier into college recruitment I know that some universities have "sister" type arrangements with other schools whereby you can utilize their career placement services. Alot of local law schools, Boalt/UC Berkeley, Golden Gate U etc usually partner closely with the really good Bay Area firms. There is also the hidden job market which is usually the best. If you know some attorneys here or anyone working in a firm regardless of their position I'd connect and network with them.

You can live quite well on a starting salary with an established firm by the way, this I do know. You just have to make sure you negotiate your terms, be clear, confident and able to sell your qualifications and attributes.

Good luck!

I forgot... this is one of the best known international law placement firms:

Major, Lindsey & Africa

They have offices in most major cities globally, including SF. I know the Director of Internal Recruitment in SF if you'd like the contact info. No charge to you. If you're placed, the hiring firm picks up recruitment costs.

Welcome to Major, Lindsey & Africa, LLC

Thumbs up Thanks!!!

I appreciate the link! It even has more resources when I click "law students" section.

I would appreciate talking to the director too. You can always send me a private message or click the yahoo icon near my member id!
