On the weekend I don't want to have to sit in traffic and search for a parking space to go to the grocery store. I can't stand that part of the Bay Area where it is just city, city, and more city. I guarantee you that if you ask 100 people who have lived in Fremont and Livermore, 95 would prefer Livermore over Fremont. Also, I am recommending Livermore, not Stockton/Modesto.

I would agree that Livermore is better than Fremont. Fremont is mainly just sprawl with no real downtown area. However, in my opinion, the added commute negates the benefit of the cute town and slightly lower costs. However, I think other than cost, many of the peninsula communities are a lot nicer and much better located than Livermore. Personally, I'd rather pay for a townhouse here in Mountain View than buy a large single family home in Livermore.

Interesting discussion.

I really wanted to keep my commute under 30 minutes. I would prefer the peninsula, but I have a large family, though the three older ones are college age, but a small townhouse makes it difficult for large family Christmas or summer visits. Maybe once my dh is also done with school and we have additional income we can make the move to the peninsula. As it is we are REALLY going to miss the albany/berkeley area.
