Hi! I'm moving from Austin, TX to NorCal in the spring. I'll be visiting early Dec to get a better idea as to what part of Sonoma County speaks to me. I'm 33, single and usually gravitate toward more artsy, funky, up & coming areas. I'd love to be close to a live music venue, small like a bar or coffee shop is fine as SF is close enough for a large venue.

I'm also into things like sustainable living, tiny houses, eco villages, animal rescue orgs, etc. A modern gal with some hippie ideals one might say.

Feel free to offer suggestions as to what towns, and or neighborhoods you think I might enjoy.

Thanks so much!

You might like Sebastopol, as it has a very artsy and kinda hippy vibe. But as a single male over the age of 28 (i.e. you can no longer hang out with the Sonoma State Universtity crowd), you may be a bit lonely. According to City Data, he median age in Sebastopol is 41.5 years old. It is also somewhat isolated, which may not be a problem if you could find a "modern gal with some hippy ideals" with whom you can enjoy the hippie culture out there.

That said, I'm not sure any place in Sonoma County would provide you with a better source of single women between 28-40. But check it out. Based on your post, I'm guessing you'll like it.

Hmm maybe Petaluma? Seems like there are a lot of places downtown to go to.

I'm confused, where do you see that I'm male and 28? I put in my post 33 and a gal. I'm not taking offense, just curious if it says that somewhere?

And if you're saying there's a shortage of women my age, good for me! )

I'd recommend Petaluma as well. Sebastopol may feel too "out there" and it's not as convenient to SF if you want that.
Petaluma is filled with creative artsy folks. See also:

I vouch for Sebastopol as well, it's like the Woodstock of the west.

You should also check out, Cotati, Healdsburg, Forestville?, Guerneville.

All of those places are good hippievilles.

I missed the part about you being female. But in terms of the "over 28", I used that as a general point of reference. In other words, any male over 28 and not you specifically. But sorry about not seeing that you are female. Of course, I'm not sure my reply would be much different. There just aren't a lot of young post-college scene single people in Sonoma County in general and in Sebastopol in particular.

Healdsburg is hippyville? I could use a lot of words to describe Healdsburg, but "granola" or "hippiville" would never be one of them, lol.

I completely agree with the other towns though, especially Cotati and Forestville.

Healdsburg is for upscale hippies, have you seen the downtown? Total hippiville. Windsor on the other hand.....lol
