For the central/north CA I'm deciding San Jose State and San Francisco. I've read a lot of reviews about them and they were neutral on the reviews.
I'm going to major in Film/TV/Cinema but I might change it so I would like to keep my major options open, but about 60% I would be a Film major.
Which one is better academically?
Which one has the better social life?
Can you get a good job after graduating? (not right after but in a few years)
And can alumni please tell me your experience and mention when you attended and graduated.

I watched a lot of SJSU film trailers from Spartan Film Studios and it looks solid, and looks very professional. So the SJSU has the upper edge, but I heard that SFSU has a good cinema major too. Please tell me your opinions, thanks!

SF State by far would be better for film or anything dealing with the humanities (Journalism, Creative Writing, English, etc). I think film might be an impacted major so you might want to check up on it though.

SJSU is better known for engineering, comp sci, etc. It's not as artsy or liberal as SFSU, but I think you'd probably end up with a better paying job though.

I'm a grad student at SFSU and I can tell you that it's a commuter school with a pretty crappy social scene on campus. If you make friends easily and like to explore the city, however, it's a great place to be.

San Jose is pretty boring in general. I'd rather deal with the commuter school aspect and get off campus to have fun than stay on SJSU's campus.

SJSU is known for engineering, but that's hardly the extent of the curriculum. It's one of the largest CSUs. Not sure how all that dictates a non-liberal environment anyway. You're playing with broad stereotypes, but why would anyone expect you to know about college?

Kinda discredited everything else you said with this bull****, anyway.

Please don't shoot me now.

San Jose is pretty boring unless you like strip malls.

Um I went to SFSU for my undergrad and I'm getting my Master's there now. I did my research before deciding which grad school to go to and I didn't care for SJSU. I never said it was a bad school. In fact, I said that SJSU's grads probably make more money than SFSU grads.

And compared to San Francisco, yes San Jose is pretty boring. I've hung out there enough to have an informed opinion and I don't think it's anywhere near as vibrant or exciting. I never said it was a bad place to live or that it sucks, I just don't care very much for it. People trash Oakland all the time, but I still like living there better than San Francisco or San Jose.

The OP was asking for OPINIONS and I provided one.

Your opinion dealt in shallow generalizations associated with San Francisco and San Jose themselves. SFSU is inherently "artsy and liberal" by virtue of being in San Francisco? Newsflash: those two words describe most every public university in the country. SJSU is known for engineering and computer science because it's in Silicon Valley? I don't see how your analysis dealt with either school in particular. I suppose my degree from UCDavis is in crop-dusting, right?

SJSU is also a commuter school. I think social life is slightly better in SFSU since it is in SF and there are lots of other students in town, and geographically closer.

Well since you went to Davis, not SF State or SJSU, your opinion doesn't really have much weight in this discussion, now does it?

SF State's academic reputation is based greatly on its successful programs within the arts/humanities (Film, Journalism, English, Creative Writing, Music). You even said yourself that SJSU was known for being an engineering school. SJSU has a much better business school than SFSU too. I'm sure people could name lots of other programs that are better at SJSU than SFSU or vice-versa. I never said SJSU was conservative, I just said SFSU was more liberal/artsy- BECAUSE IT IS. If you'd ever set foot on campus you'd notice it's hipster central. SJSU is quite different. You obviously have no clue what you're talking about and your reading comprehension skills make it sound like you actually DID get a degree in crop dusting.

By your own logic here, you have no grounds for comparison since you attended only one institution in question. Good work, scholar.
