San Francisco State and San Jose State are pretty much on the same academic level. I have a few friends who attend SFSU, I used to attend USF (University of San Francisco). The campus is not located in the city "city", but can be easily accessible by BART. It's in a safe part of the city and near Ocean Beach where I'm sure you will have many bonfire parties. I don't know what race you are, but there are a lot of Asians, so if your coming from a town that's mostly White etc it may be a bit of a shock. Ummm...I think that covers it really, well so if you haven't figured, I'd choose SFSU out of the 3 schools you mentioned. San Francisco is a pretty awesome city.

San Jose is a better engineering or computer science school, San Francisco is a better pre-med school. Parking is a pain at either place; I went to SJSU, lived in Morgan Hill at the time and usually wound up parking at the Ohlone/Chynoweth light-rail station at 85 & Santa Teresa to ride to campus. Otherwise I was constantly stopped in traffic, and when I got there my car was constantly getting hit.
