My family are visiting in January, anyone knows any good inn and cheap hotel that's clean and have parking lot? Not fancy, just reasonable rate, clean room, and a parking spot.

Anywhere outside Tenderlion and Civic Center would be nice. My friend just got mugged couple days ago, so I am being very cautious right now.....

I like the Holiday Inn Golden Gateway at Van Ness and California, and the Hotel Tomo in Japantown. Both are pretty reasonable (more so depending on season -- January should be good!) and in safe areas.

Both will charge you a BUNDLE for parking, though. I don't know where you could get reasonably priced parking, too.

Define "reasonable." A while ago someone here listed a hotel on Lombard that looked pretty cheap and decent, there's a ton of others on Lombard as well.

How basic are you OK with, because the castro hotel is one which I stayed at. it was clean and safe, decent stayers, but VERY basic. Castro Hotel - North Beach/Telegraph Hill - San Francisco, CA
I payed the weekly rate of $250 or so.

well , it didn't seem to have a parking lot from what I recall. but I didn't look too hard either because I'm just a bus rider.

I also stayed at the Van Ness Inn or something like that in which I talked the clerk into letting me stay for $75 for a night (normal price of $85 at the time)

Hotels Combined is another site worth checking out in part because only verified reviews are accepted.

We stayed at the Marina Motel on Lombard while apartment hunting. It was pretty affordable and the price included parking. Nice location, too. We'd happily stay there again. They also have some rooms with kitchenettes, if you want that.

The Geary Parkway Motel in the Richmond District is also affordable and has free parking. It lacks the charm of the Marina Motel, but my husband (who has stayed there; I've only seen the outside) said it was clean and basic, and the location is great if you'll be spending any time in Golden Gate Park (and Clement Street is GREAT for restaurants!).
