Hey everybody,

I currently live in Honolulu, but I'll only be here for a year total. After that, I'll be moving to the bay area.

Just wondering if any of you could make some general comparisons between the various surf spots available there. I'll likely still be pretty green by the time I move there, but hopefully a year of HI surf will prevent me from being a complete beginner by then.

I know that there is surf at Santa Cruz, Ocean Beach and of course Maverick's (whick I will never surf I'm sure). Any others? Which ones are best for long boarding/beginner's? Any other insights?

thanks so much,
GRap

I'm not a surfer, so I can't really compare ours to Hawaii... but we also have Rockaway Beach in Pacifica, where my friends all used to go! Surfline | Rockaway Surf Travel Info and Photos

My Boyfriend is a surfer and we always go to Pacifica. There are a few surf spots there. You can drive along highway 1 too. Haha my BF says he'll never surf maverick's either. I guess that's asking to die.

I know Santa Cruz is below San Fran which is apparently one of -the- surf beaches.

I see videos of people kite surfing in the bay, which looks fantastic. I would love to try that
