Yep, just another one of the billion reasons why parking in San Francisco is a nightmare and extremely unpleasant!

As if we needed another excuse to never go shopping in the city.

Something that I've found to be very useful for city parking are SFMTA parking cards. You can use them to pay at all SF parking meters except those run by the Port of San Francisco (mostly those meters located on and very close to the Embarcadero). They come in $20 and $50 amounts and can be purchased online or at many stores around the city. Until the new credit card-accepting parking meters become more prevalent in the city, I will continue to use them.

Oh boo hoo, it's the city, you take public transit like you would in Manhattan.
Get out of your car and walk a block or two

I am sure you aware that SF is a very expensive city. FYI, a muni ticket is $2 for a 2 hr ride!

Well everybody says that but still it's impossibly crowded in union square every weekend... No other mall in bay area comes even close to union square in terms of shopping options and selection in the stores.

I don't think I have ever seen a free spot in one of those!

I do my shopping in Union Square or Walnut Creek. Depending on if I feel like driving or not.

I pretty much never drive to SF. Especially downtown. In fact in the 12 years I have had my own car in the Bay, I could probably count on 2 hands the number of times I've bothered to drive to SF (excluding trips to the airport). I hate paying for parking, and more importantly circling the block looking for parking. I'd rather just hop on transit.

I do not do my shopping in SF anymore.

Stanford shopping center has the same stores and more and you can always find a parking space there.
