When the county is nearly split 50/50 it really isn't "that conservative", maybe if it was 60/40 then you could say that but it pretty much falls right in the middle. But some people from the Bay Area, especially those in SF, Oak, and Berk, tend to have a different definition of what is "conservative". When you have an electorate as homogenous and lopsided as some Bay Area cities, reality can be a bit skewed for some imo.

In what way? How often do you see a large protest with conservatives or for a conservative cause? Especially one's that cause damage, shut down streets, try to shut down ports, etc?

And for the OP, here is something I'd like to point out. A lot of people in the Bay Area love talking about politics and as you can imagine it tends to be a one sided converation most of the time.

Civil disobedience is a Bay Area tradition for left-leaning activists (not including Black Bloc pointless destruction). Righties get loud on the radio.

True, I don't listen to talk radio so I kind of forgot about that. The few times I have I couldn't stand it. The thing is it's easy to never turn the dial to a conservative talk radio show but it's harder to avoid a protest, for example when they are trying to shut BART down.

And San Diego has one of the loudest in Roger Hedgcock. The station that has him would have billboards featuring his show either right before or right after Rush Limbaugh's. In the early 90's he had a TV talk show like Rush's and came on just before it. However as with Rush's TV show, it didn't last but his presence will always be there as he's a former SD mayor. San Diego's conservatism runs deep.

And the Bay Area has an even louder one, Michael Savage. Who has the 4th highest rated radio talk show in the country, Hedgcock is nobody compared to the Savage Nation.

They're all Rush's children. Bratty children.

It isn't that SD is that conservative -- it's that SF is that liberal. In my experience the liberals are much louder than conservatives.

54 vs 52% isn't saying a lot. Also keep in mind these numbers are for all of SD county, which does include some extremely conservative suburbs. The city of SD is more liberal, although still nowhere near as one-sided as SF.

Santee. Scary. Better know your NASCAR, or you might end up under a Camaro. With the big confederate flag.

Klantee...er...sorry...Santee has mellowed a bit. Still some of that there but not as much. Lakeside however is alive and well with that culture. So is Ramona. Big 'ol lifted trucks with Confederate flags in the window isn't at all uncommon in those places.
