Couple of folks shot on Broadway in downtown last night. I think they were expected to survive.

I think it's an improvement for a city with that usually has a pace of well over 100+ murders a year. It is a positive.

Look beyond the numbers you morons.

What relief that things like that only happen in Oakland. Just think how safe the rest of the country would be if we applied this same rigorous standard of safety that Oakland is held to in every major city in America.

Oh how I wish I could live across the bay in SF where nothing bad ever happens.

Really Bulldog, what point are you trying to make here?

Well, homicides are actually way down due in part to that much hyped fed crackdown that ended with 60 violent people being arrested and a major gun trafficking ring being shut down.

As a result, homicides plunged from 14 in April to just 5 in May, which is stellar considering the year long rise that began in fall of 2010 after 4 straight years of steady decline.

I certainly hope this trend continues and to me its affirmation that cracking down on criminals actually yields results, even here--whodathunkit?

That's crazy talk! Criminals should just reign free. When they are ready to stop, they will. They just need a few gentle reminders.....

The OP started an Oakland thread. You don't need to tell me about other cities as I live in Stockton.

Oakland and Stockton will probably end up vying for the top spot this year for worst crime cities in California. I was merely giving you a good natured ribbing with some backup links.

Troll Caller

Calling somebody a Troll in an online community to suppress criticism, rather than be perceived as a failure, to look and sound stupid, uninformed or unintelligent.
Instead of handling criticism, they became Troll Callers.

This is unfortunately to be expected in Oakland. I don't mean to trash the town, and I know it has safe areas and nice things... but the statistics are pervasive and clear, and the distinction is not a kind one.
