Hi,

I am moving back to Northern California and am wondering how massage therapists (legitimate -therapeutic) are doing in this economy at spas or private practice. Are resort spas still busy year round and is 3-5 massage a day a reality, what is the commission/pay?
Any advice is greatly appreciated.

The Bay Area is flooded with massage therapists. Other places may be different but I had a couple friends who worked at a spa in Berkeley and they didn't make much better than minimum wage. They relied on tips for extra income and any private clients they may have had on the side. It's pretty competitive.

My sister paid several thousand dollars to attend the Berkeley School of Massage. (Don't know if they're still around.) She worked at it for about a year, got good referrals from Stanford Hospital, but it wasn't steady enough.
