OP, what if you got in a part of Concord that's close to Walnut Creek, then petitioned the school districts to allow your son to attend in WC? I had a friend who was able to pull that off, though it was a while ago, the rules may have changed since then. But it might be worth a shot.

Bad advice. Concord is the cheapest place in that area, and high crime at that. I live in the area.

The easiest thing for OP to do is simply stay in Sacramento. Despite what the co-worker says, it is not career suicide. Just tell them your living opportunity in Concord fell through.

Talk about the people here making a mountain out of a molehill of a problem.

A few years ago I rented a 2-bedroom apartment on Ascot Dr. in Moraga for $1200/month. Moraga has some of the best public schools in the state. I highly recommend that you check out that area as there are many rentals right off Moraga Rd. The downside is that Moraga is off the beaten path (narrow, dark & winding roads) from the 24 freeway but its not too far from Walnut Creek. Definitely worth looking into before signing on someplace in Concord.

Stay away from Monument Blvd. in Concord. Lots of rentals in that area and just a bad area.
Lots of police in Concord if that makes you feel better.

I live in Bangkok, Thailand, Asia--way hotter than Concord and far worse traffic and highest # of road fatalties on earth. More worried about crime, safety, access to BART, things to do, Costco, 99 cents store, sense of community, medical care,

Thailand may be safer as far as muggings, murder, home robberies,,After 16 months living in the USA I may have forgot how rough things are in the USA..Also rent is low here, no need for a car, lots of community here, less complications or hassles than the USA etc etc
