Got ours beat by about 20 years:

Chiaramonte's has been here in SJ since 1908. (add that sausage to your pizza)
Chiaramonte's Deli & Sausages - San Jose, CA

Don't get me wrong, you can find some really outstanding Italian food in the Bay Area. When I lived in Walnut Creek, I was especially fond of Tulio's. Great family restaurant where the food was consistently good. Your chances of finding a great Italian Restaurant vs Great Pizzeria in the Bay Area are much higher. Getting back to Tulio's, they not only have great Italian food, they usually give you a very large portion. So typically I would get 2 meals out of a pasta dish (and I'm a BIG eater). My cousin comes from the East Coast (New Jersey) to visit, I tell him my favorite dish at Tulio's, and he proceeds to eat the whole thing ! His exact words were, "That was outstanding, definitely NY quality". So Italian food is a strength in the Bay Area, absolutely, though I never found an outstanding Italian Restaurant in the North Beach area, which is weird, because the North Beach area is somewhat equivalent to NY's Little Italy.

Dominos.

Yeah, SF sucks that much for pizza, just like it sucks that much for all non-chinese food

Poor attempt.

There is some great pizza in SF. It's not NYC or Chicago, but there are many good options.

My top five are:

Tony's
Victor's
Golden Boy
Little Star
Zachary's

Yes, and it's very good. For NY style, I can't believe I forgot Tommaso's. Great, slightly charred, chewy crust, fresh, rich sauce and fresh ingredients. I've heard some complain about too much cheese, but I think that's a weird problem to have in pizza.

Tommaso's is my second favorite pie in North Beach.

I hate too much cheese personally. So for me many pizza places are a fail. I like crispy or crunchy-chewy crust. Tasty sauce and minimal/light amount of toppings. No heavy fold in half slices for me.

"Too much cheese on the pizza" is akin to declaring "Too much beer in the pitcher". Can't grasp the concept.

More in San Jose:
Kukar's House of Pizza is a classic old get-together place with tasty massive pizzas, in a large space.
Pizza Chicago makes some decent pies, including a new gluten-free one for picky hippie friends.
