$2.8 mil will get you this home . I love Spanish / Mediterranean style homes, although I'd change some of the furniture. If you read the comments, you'll see that some of them refer to Oakland's crime . . .again.

Let's be real... average criminals are way too lazy to go all the way up there. You can't just roll in and steal from a place like that. :P

There's nothing average about criminals or crime in Oakland

Medeterranean-style homes are everywhere in the Bay Area, especially Berkeley. All those homes up there have security systems, and the neighbors keep an eye on things. Any unusual activity gets reported.

People plotting robberies on well protected homes in the hills are generally well organized groups. A different animal than the opportunistic ones. As long as OPD is open and obvious about their lack of resources, criminals will target places knowing the response time is slower than usual. But hitting that sort if place takes lots of planning basic criminals don't have time for.

I am on my phone, please forgive the typos.

I see someone else likes posts about Oakland crime and thumbs up emoticons, not unlike Doc Fittsburgh

If you like this house, you'd love Piedmont. Many grand, gorgeous prewar homes there.

This is typically true. It's just like the home invasion robbery that ocurred in Monte Sereno recently in which the homeowner was killed. It turned out the homeowner was actually set up by a prostitute he hired who had ties to an Oakland gang that committed the crime.

A lot of times when an upscale home with high security is burglarized or invaded when the residents are home, it's typically not random. The news stations like to sensationalize stuff like this and make it seem like it's random crime.

The fact is in the Oakland hills, your chance of being a crime victim are lower than some other cities in the Bay Area that don't have repuations for high crime.
