We have lived in the Hayward Hills up near Cal State for the last 13 years.. Lovely view of the city from our back yard, never had a problem with crime or anything.. Neighborhood is very close-knit and look out for one another and very quiet and peaceful. Downtown Hayward has improved a great deal in the last few years. Movie theater opened and lots of small businesses are thriving.

I'm not sure I like the "Hayward Loop" traffic re-route, though...

Home prices by us are still very affordable compared to the rest of the SF Bay area.

I’m from Detroit I went and lived in Hayward for 2 years and it was a good city there’s not really any murders is about 3 per year most of the time and you’ll rearly see a side show in Hayward I had to be going to Oakland to see sideshows in my opinion Hayward is one of the safest citys in the bay are with san mateo and fremont only bad thing is that rent is expensive here since is more nice and some times people do tend to break car windows for fun I recommend you to live here if you got the money

I've lived fifty some years in the Bay Area, and Hayward Hills was one of the hidden gems.
  • Amazing bay view, from San Francisco to Palo Alto.
  • Nice and comfortable bay weather.
  • Good water from Hetch-Hetchy, Yosemite.
  • Home of the California State University, East Bay (CSUEB.)
  • Central Bay Area location, plus scenic backroads to Tri-Valley.

(Side note: Last weekend, Stephen Curry - Golden State Warriors NBA - just played golf here, at the Ellie Mac Classic at TPC Stonebrae, Hayward Hills. https://scontent-sjc3-1.xx.fbcdn.net...11&oe=5C04B75F)

Hayward is obviously safer than Detroit but it doesn't even come close to being one of the safest cities in the Bay Area...not by a long shot. Sure there are some nice areas, but overall Hayward has a very sketchy and rundown vibe in many areas.

On another note, periods are your friend.

Last weekend I was at South Hayward visiting some home builders, and received the following information about some new development in the area. I posted it in another thread earlier, yet I think it is worth to also share here....

Quote:
Recently, things are changing a lot at the Tennyson Road, South Hayward area.

Since Facebook (and other companies) are extending the campus to the East Bay, there are many tech employees buying homes and moving to the area.

* Take a drive at Tennyson and Mission -- we will find they are building a big new community of a few hundreds new single-family houses (2,500-3,500 square feet, 3-5 bedrooms, low-mid $1M.) Some have nice view to the bay.

* The city of Hayward is also building a 50-acres (La Vista Park) hillside park between these new homes and the Tennyson/Mission area. This new 50-acres park will have trails, sports fields, amphitheater, yoga lawn, plus a 180-degree San Francisco Bay View (see link below.)

* The city of Hayward also approved to redevelope the (long closed) bowling site at Mission/Industrial. It will feature modern townhouses and commercial spaces. It will brighten up that intersection when finished.

* A lot of vacant lots on Mission Blvd. (close to Tennyson) already have new home builder signs putting up in the lots, and will be breaking ground soon.
