I am moving to San Francisco with 2 other people in June from Pennsylvania. Yes, I know that cost of living ( especially a place to live ) is about 23948029348398402938402938 times higher. Putting that aside, I am in a quandary about whether to bring the furniture or just buy new... and if I do bring the furniture, what moving company would you recommend? Out of all the expenses, moving my crap is going to set me back the most. I plan on packing my car up with as much stuff as I can and then driving that across country. I looked out how much it cost to rent out a moving truck and a pull for your car and it would be a lot more expensive ( including the cost of gas for that huge truck ) then it would to just drive my car and then pay someone to transport my stuff over. Any words of advice?

Dump the furniture and buy new stuff when you get there.

I agree... unless you have some extremely rare, expensive or sentimental items, I'd dump as much as possible! Trust me, I've done moves much closer than that, and it was a pain even then. We have plenty of furniture stores out here, LOL.

Yeah, I never understood the attachment to furniture that some people have. I am a musician and the only thing that I am really attached to are my guitars. Beds, tables & couches are very replaceable.
