Right now its about almost 800k. I read somewhere that the new SOMA developments could add almost 100k so I am guesing SF wil reach about 900K by 2030 but from there will it ever reach 1 Mill?

Doubt it. There's not much land left, Soma is not large enough to add that many people.

San Francisco is actually growing at a very healthy clip relatively speaking.

According to the California Department of Finance:
San Francisco Population
2009 851,000
2000 781,000
2000-2009 +9%
2000-2009 +70,000

If SF continues to grow at the same rate, it will reach 927,000 in 2009 and 1,010,000 in 2019 but SF has actually seen an accelerated growth rate in the past 2 reported years and if that trend continues then SF will hit 1 Million sooner than 2019.

Isn't that main growth because they under counted 100K residents that were already there? I can't see SF reaching 1 Million.

Haha, I guess San Francisco is really aiming to be the Manhattan of the West Coast . In order for that to happen, SF would need to achieve a population density of 66,000 square miles (or around 3 million in its 46 square miles).

The real question is: Can residents of SF tolerate having 1 million people in 46 square miles?

It quite possibly could, but it will take many years. If I remember right it was in the neighborhood of 750,000 30 years ago.

Can San Francisco accommodate more people considering how condense the city limits are? I suppose if San Francisco included Daly City\ San Bruno\ SFO it would easily exceed a million.

There will likely be that many anchor babies before long since SF is a "sanctuary" city!

The space is too finite and they can't go verticle for fear of quakes. The only way I see it is if the city takes over the Presidio and develops it

I am surprised to see that SF population actually increased. I thought it would be stable or in decline! In any case if they do high-rise developments in Mission Bay and rebuild the industrial area around Potrero/Dogpatch there can be at least 50,000 more people there.
