When I move to SFO, I will likely need a cheap place to stay while I look for a permanent place. I was doing some searching, and there is the "garden motel" in Redwood City. It's only $40/night, so I'm definitley NOT expecting anything in the way of luxury. However, I do want a somewhat safe place to stay. The address is 1690 Broadway, in Redwood City. It looks like it's on Broadway, between El Camino Real & Woodside. Any insight on this particular area? Again, I'm not expecting a totally quiet, suburban, family area ..but also dont want to be in a place where hookers roam the street corners!

Corte Madera has the Marin Inn and Suites for extended stays, if that's what you're looking for? Excuse the ignorance, but what is SFO--I'm thinking the SF airport? I need coffee!!!!!!!

Yeah, SFO is the airport ..I'm an airline employee and tend to refer to all cities by their codes :-)

I'm looking for something very inexpensive, and most of those extended stay places are $70+/night
And I will work in Burlingame, so need somewhere fairly close. Where is Corte Madera?

Corte Madera is north of the Golden Gate Bridge, I believe. Very long and bad commute.

Broadway is downtown RWC, it can get a bit on the noisy and seedy side. There are a number of nice motels along El Camino Real in Millbrae (generally quite a safe town), I'd recommend calling around.

That part of Redwood City is okay... you won't be shot or mugged there (most likely), but it's the official "downtown" - so can get noisy & busy, like sonarrat said. I also agree with the suggestion of Millbrae, which has plenty of cheap hotels in safe areas (along El Camino, mostly). You could also look in San Bruno near Tanforan, or on Airport Blvd., which has both fancy & cheaper places to choose from.

Thanks for clarifying the SFO acronym.
...scratch my reccommendation, I wasn't fortunate to become too familar with south of the GGB.
Yes - and what a nasty commute it would be to and from where you're doing your business.

Could your employer set you up with lodging?
