Brown signs bill ending current standardized tests | UTSanDiego.com

Thoughts? Would like to hear from those with more insight in this.

Given that they don't work or encourage any meaningful type of learning, I'm all for it.

There will be new standardized tests that replace these (Common Core Standards). The new tests are supposed to evaluate problem solving and critical thinking rather than memorization, so that should be an improvement.

Apparently the new common core standards will allow for easier cross reference between states as well.

And nobody bashed it yet so could be a good thing...I guess we will have to wait and see.

Probably going to be pretty silent until we get a feel for how these Common Core tests will be.

If true, then this would be a step in the right direction.

The funny thing is ca is going to lose federal money, because they want to make up their own tests, which don't show how low ghetto people and illegals score on these tests.

The democrat dominated state legislature, also tweaked the api system, by deemphasising test score.

These people try to do everything to hide the truth. California public schools are filled with inferior people, who have inferior parents.

I would never let my children get educated by a California institution. Private education all the way. Pay to play.

FL's governor has. Then again, I'd be more worried if FL wasn't bashing it. It's a pretty good litmus test. Does FL like it? Bad idea. Does FL hate it? Maybe not a good idea, but a positive sign.

I was visiting family in nova a few weeks ago. In the newspaper they were talking about how Virginia raised their test standards.

Every one there thinks raising the bar to compete in a global economy is a great idea , except of course the *usual suspects* -people in ghetto/esl school districts.

Pretty easy to figure out why ca is lowering the bar. Gotta make all the 18 year olds who have never taken alegebra or physics, appear like they are prepared for college.

Though at this rate csu's are looking less and less like real colleges. What with juco's like city college not even being accredited anymore. Lol!!!!!!!!!!

Schools with ESL students should end up doing better on the tests. The tests are going to accommodate ESL students and evaluate them more on content.
