Gender gap: Men getting paid more than women in Silicon Valley - Local: In The Peninsula

No shocker. And before anyway talks about women not becoming engineers? I know plenty in my circle who found out they were paid 20-49% less than their peers.

That's interesting, OP. I wonder how that compares to Microsoft in the Seattle area? I don't think it happens that much up there, but I could be wrong.

From the article (pretty extreme!);

Men who hold graduate or professional degrees earn a whopping 73 percent more than women with the same educational qualifications, while men with a bachelor’s degree earn 40 percent more than women with the same credentials, the study found.

Ahh, statistics; as the saying goes, what they reveal is suggestive but what they hide is vital. It's not enough to control for one variable and declare your study variable the cause of the difference. You have to control for ALL the other variables. Men with a bachelors degree earn 40 percent more than women with a bachelors degree? OK, but are they the same degrees? Are the men and women with bachelors degrees the same age with the same number of years of experience?

Nationwide? Pay differences of 40% and even 75%? In what fields? I've never heard of anything this extreme. The pay gap between men and women has been reported to be disappearing, especially for people in their 20's and 30's. Huge pay differences like what the OP describes are going against the trend.

the income inequality movement is slow in the bay area. that is bek they know how to make money. requiring people to pay you bek of your race or gender is not a profit minded move.

What you're saying is that the tech field is one huge "old boys' network"? A throwback to the early 20th Century and other bygone eras?

well lets take a closer look at your accusation. in the areas where women have made the most advancement, say government employment, i can speak from personal experience, the good old boy system in those areas have been replaced by the good old girl system.
friend people on the bottom are not looking for equality ---they are looking for a reversal of roles and some even payback.
