Are any apartments that have balconies with views of the bay, bridge, etc automatically cost a lot more?

Sorry to make a whole topic about such a stupid question...

not having a view will cost you... so having one will DEFINITELY cost you... my mom lives on nob hill and has a north facing view of the golden gate bridge.... theyre building is worth an easy 3 million for 3 flats

Makes you want to rob a bank--how the hell do people afford stuff like this--not all of us are lawyers or doctors

The lawyers and doctors (and CEOs, and so forth) are who is affording it... otherwise the whole town would be mansions with amazing views! Either that, or it's old people who bought their homes a thousand years ago, or their kids/grandkids who inherited them.

You can get some nice views without millions, though, if you're willing to live in a small apartment, old/fixer-upper house, or unsafe neighborhood. However, for the PRIME views, like Golden Gate Bridge or Palace of Fine Arts, you will pay up the nose regardless - Bay Bridge or water, on the other hand, is possible for less than a million. Are you only talking about the city of San Francisco? Because I had this view from my apartment in Pacifica, and paid $1200/mo.

I think it kind of depends on the 'hood and the view. My house in the Inner Sunset was up the hill near Grandview Park, and I could see the GG Bridge and Mt. Tam from my back deck, but I didn't feel I was paying any extra for THAT view when I was looking at houses and chose that one. And when I rented in the Outer Sunset, I could see the ocean from my front windows, though I was still 15 blocks or so inland. But the neighborhood was pretty blah there, so the rents were reasonable, ocean view or not. I think the better the neighborhood, the closer you are to what it is you're viewing, and the more expansive the view, the more it sets you back. So I think you might be able to get some kind of a view without it costing an arm and a leg, but not the best views in the best areas.

I used to do appraisals in San Francisco. Yes, you pay for a view. The better the view, the more you pay for it.

Hey, whatever floats your boat! As long as the residents know what they're getting, I hope they enjoy the view...
