Moving to the Bay Area for work. Danville seems like the obvious winner based on the research we've done so far. Though Marin seems like it might work too.

Wife is very southern, from SC.

Where do Southern conservative, Jesus loving rednecks move too in the Bay Area.

Work is in downtown SF near embarcadero BART.

I hear from colleagues San Ramon is nice if you want your kids going to a school that is 98% Indian and Asian.

Any place to get decent GRITS in the East Bay?

Main is not going to work, too liberal. . Stick with the 680 cooridor. Probably Danville or Alamo will have suffcient white people for you. You do need to drive to BART, and the parking likely fills up early in the AM, unless someone is going to drop you off.

Although you might want to check your bias about all of those Indian and Asian people, because you are going to run into lots, particularly as you move up the income ladder.

The Bay Area doesn't work like North Carolina, it is segregated by social class/income and not so much race.

Danville isn't really for rednecks--very upscale. You might find more "rednecks" in some parts Concord or Martinez. Also, what difference does it make what nationality your kids go to school with?? If you take that attitude, you probably wouldn't be comfortable with living here at all. It's fairly diverse in the region and people don't generally care what religion you are.

Head for Stockton and plan for a two-hour commute.

I'd say there are probably too Mexicans and perhaps African Americans for the OP to feel at home. Probably not gonna find anywhere where his kids can be surrounded by a sea of all white, Jesus loving (yet conservative ) white folk.

or maybe this is too upscale for a southern redneck?

I think Danville's probably your best bet, although the commute isn't great (I would recommend driving to BART and taking it in). There's nowhere in the Bay Area that is really conservative. There are few, if any, towns that vote Republican, although Danville is moderate politically and you could probably find some culturally like-minded people. Danville is a upper-middle/upper-class suburb, with all the nice features of suburbia. Culturally, it is pretty white, and there are a good number of people who care about high school football and go to church, so you can probably find your niche. It is going to be more diverse and it is moderate, not conservative, but it is a nice place to live and I don't think you'll feel out of place.

Walnut Creek and San Ramon are also nice and pretty moderate politically, but a little more diverse and maybe a little more liberal (at least WC). All will have lots of soccer mom types, including those who like shopping at expensive stores and bleaching their hair blonde. I wouldn't recommend Marin -- it's very white, but full of rich, yuppie/hippie types. There are a few other moderate-conservative pockets -- I think St. Francis Wood in San Francisco voted for Romney, but the conservatives there are more like New England fiscal Republicans, not your Southern Republicans.

Good luck with grits. There are a few places that serve them, but Southern food is generally lacking in the Bay Area. Good barbecue is also tough to find (although not impossible).

Seconded. Always pleased to see a humble, open-minded newcomer to the area.

Danville would probably be your best bet in terms of fitting in. I think you might also like Vacaville, but you'd be in for a truly horrendous commute.
