I have a ram 1500 crew cab truck and don't know if we should downsize or not? We'll be spending a lot of time in the city but living in Alameda. i know driving around there can be challenging and parking a truck that seize will be tough. We love our truck but don't want it to be a disincentive for going into the city. Are there any truck owners who can shed light on this issue? We were thinking of possibly downsizing to a Subaru Forester if the truck is just not practical there. Any advice would greatly appreciated.

I think parking your truck would be easy. I have a 350 crew cab long bed. I'm used to parking on the fringes of lots. I tow and haul so I can't get rid of it. I'd rather ride my bicycle for puddle jumps.

A truck will be fine in Alameda---a nightmare in the City, however. Street parking in San Francisco is really hard for even small cars. I don't even drive into the City anymore---take public transportation if possible!

I would downsize, it would be a pain parking it in the city, but would be fine in Alameda.

Whatever you decide, just be prepared...When people in the city learn that you've got a truck, you suddenly become their best friend when they need help moving.

Yep, my niece lives in the city with a small truck and is always hit-up to help people move. But they pay for her truck and help which isn't a bad thing for a college kid.

And street parking with a Dodge Ram will be a nightmare in many parts of the city.

Depends on whether you can get an assigned parking spot. It can be expensive in some parts of the city, plus gas and bridge tolls aren't exactly cheap either. The public transit options to SF from Alameda are pretty great.

I have something a little bit smaller (Ridgeline) and I have done OK. But I don't go and try to park in North Beach with it.
