Hello All,

My wife and I may have the opportunity to move to the bay area within the next few months. The tricky part is she would be working at Travis AFB (Vacaville area) and I will be working in downtown San Francisco. We need some guidance on a place to live.

I don't mind having the longer commute but want to limit it to about an hour. I figure her commute would be easier since she will be going in the opposite direction of traffic but would like to limit hers to about 30-45 minutes.

Can anyone give us advice on where to live? We are looking for a 3+ bedroom 2 bath house with a yard and able to spend somewhere between $2,000 and $2,800 a month on rent.

Thanks in advance for the help/advice.

D

Concord? There's are BART stations to go to San Francisco, and you are closer to Travis than many other Bay Area cities. Don't call it SFO, as SFO refers to the airport.

I'd agree with the poster above. Concord has BART and you can take 680 -> 80 to get to Travis AFB.

Concord/Pleasant Hill/Walnut Creek area is pretty much in the middle. My wife works in Downtown SF and I work in Fairfield, we live in Pleasant Hill. There's not traffic going to Fairfield and it will take you probably under 45 min. It takes me a little less than 30 but Travis AFB is probably another 15 as it's farther off the freeway.

Personally I would avoid anything within the area bounded by Monument Blvd/Galindo St, Clayton Rd, and the freeway. Basically anything off Meadow/Detroit, etc...in Concord. Also areas of North Concord are not the best either. Areas off Olivera and Solano Way are a bit trashy IMO.

Check out Martinez.

Check out the option to take Amtrak (Capitol Corridor train) to Emeryville and then take the Amtrak bus into SF. The Amtrak buses are really nice and are waiting at the station when your train arrives. And Martinez to Vacaville isn't too bad either. I have good friends who live in Fairfield and they both commute into Martinez every day.

You could live in Fairfield and take the Amtrak from the Suisun station, too. The Amtrak trains are clean and really nice and have Wi-Fi, too.
