Hello!
I am a recent graduate that just got a job in Berkeley. I am looking for the right area to live. I enjoy the party scene and being around young people. I do have a car but I would like to get home and be able to walk to bars on the weekends and restaurants during the week. I'd like to live close to a Bart stop but maybe not too expensive.
Any suggestions?

Everything is expensive here in the Bay Area, unless it's far away. What's your budget?

Try the Temescal in Oakland or areas very close to it. You can find a 1 bedroom for around $1200-$1400 or a studio for maybe $1100-$1200. It's a nice walkable area. Berkeley has gotten stupid expensive.

I'm 25, I just arrived in Adams Point a couple of weeks ago. I live right near Whole Foods and I feel like it's the perfect spot, I stop at Farley's for a coffee before getting on BART in the morning, walk my groceries home in the evening. Uptown bars are about a 15 min walk.

Rockridge in Oakland, is a great spot. BART station and restaurants/bars close by.

Rents have exploded beyond the OP's means in Berkeley and Oakland, though. Rents for just a room are approaching that $1000/mo. we were telling people was the going rate for a room in SF just last year! He might get lucky and find a studio around Rockridge for $1500. The location is worth the effort to find a place there.

There are also Cal students living scattered around that College Avenue corridor, though. Though you have a point, that the OP could probably do better in terms of finding a higher concentration of young people.

Yeah, I agree with Rockridge more appealing to an older demographic than OP, plus it is expensive. Temescal would be my top choice for someone of your demographic with your budget, followed by Adams Point & Grand Lake, Uptown (if you find in your budget), and Berkeley Downtown by the University, if you're ok with many of the young people being students.
