There are also car shares in the more walkable parts of the East Bay. OP, you're living in Rockridge, right? You don't really need one there if your commute is by BART--just join City Carshare or Zipcar to have access to a car when needed. If you have parking and the car is paid off, you could hang onto it, and if you hope to do a lot of road trips, you might want it. But it's certainly not necessary.

If you already own the car and will have a place to park it- keep it. My son's car broke down and he tried to get one of those cheap $9.99 Enterprise specials' and they were all sold out, but they did have some cars available for $45 a day

Do they still do the $30/3-day special on weekends? It could be that there's better availability for the package. It's still a cheap deal for a weekend, compared to $45/day.

Uh, that's exactly what they were referencing. The $9.99 per day for the weekend (fri-sat-sun) deal, and they were out of eligible cars for that promo. Probably would have been worth trying another location, but alas...

That's a popular program of theirs. It helps to reserve in advance. They usually have quite a few locations, though. I'm in a small town, and they have at least 3 locations.
