What's wrong with making a career out of public service in elected office or through appointments?

People act like its a bad thing. Odd.

Depends on whether you are one of "them", or one of "us" ...

Career politicians are usually out of touch with the reality of regular American citizens' lives. I don't know about you, but I feel like people need to remain grounded to work in government. Hard to do that when you're taking bribes and have too much power.

Pelosi is awful. Saw her on a talk show recently. She spent the whole time complaining - Republicans are blocking Democrats from doing great things for the country. Yeah yeah yeah, the whole "them against us" BS like always. Why doesn't she talk about all the great stuff she thinks they've accomplished instead?

And most citizens are seriously out of touch with the reality of how and why politics is the way it is, as well. How human nature creates the dynamics that politics serves and abuses. There's no alternative because of our species' irrationalities in spite of our supposed intelligence.

You also don't seem to understand how politics works in the House of Representatives. If you're in the majority party, you rule and you set the agenda. If you're in the minority it sucks and you can do little.

Pelosi was House majority leader and later Speaker of the House - and when she was in the majority, she did a lot and passed a lot of legislation. Once the Republicans took over in the House, she has squat, and can only make noise or oppose. Where she has had any sort of influence was when Boehner can't even get his GOP colleagues to agree or pass a budget - and she can get the Democratic minority to vote as a bloc - and get a budget passed with largely Dem votes - but Boehner (or Ryan) has to agree to that, with concessions to the Democrats, which they are loath to do.

Really, given that the Republican led current Congress has been one of the most unproductive legislatures in history, and she is a Democrat, why would you think Pelosi would try to trump up any accomplishments by the Republicans? Kind of like a chicken rooting for Colonel Sanders.

So what were the biggest accomplishments Pelosi championed as the house majority leader, and speaker of the house?

Try passing the Affordable Care Act, for one.

Repealing Don't Ask, Don't Tell.

Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act.

American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

Student Aid and Fiscal Responsibility Act

Just a few that comes to mind.

I understand how government's checks and balances work just fine thanks.
Seems you missed my point.

When a person, including politicians, act like they think they're more important than others, I don't care what political party the person belongs to. If the person acts like a douchebag, they're a douchebag.

I tend to vote Democrat (except for the time I supported Scwartzenegger for governor then regretted it later), but I don't support bad behavior.

That behavior reminds me of Ed Lee, so-called lead supporter of Vision Zero, parking in a crosswalk thus blocking it for pedestrians.

I also won't forget when Diane Feinstein thought us common San Franciscans were unworthy to carry handguns, but not her! Her life is "special" and we peasants are expendable.
