I used to live in Berkeley and left five years ago.

You know that new Dwight condo complex - what used to be there?

I have a vague memory of a massage place which was there for decades, maybe a Chinese restaurant but that might have been south of Dwight.

Second question: are there homeless tents in Berkeley now? There have always been homeless but when I was last there, no tents.

There used to be an Art Deco building on the corner, about three stories high. Not sure what was on the top floors but I think the last thing that was in the retail space at the bottom was something like an antique furniture store or something like that. We may all want to take some inventory of what exists on Shattuck Ave right now as I'm sure much of the single-story and lower-rise buildings will eventually all soon be history. The trend is now to build multi-level and high-rise residential units on property that used to be exclusively retail and non-residential, and Shattuck is a prime example of this (the best example probably being the transformation of Shattuck & Carleton, where the old Honda Service Center used to be).

As far as homeless tents, that seems to be what's happening in every city. I'm not sure how they get the tents but I see them everywhere.
