Just on the face of it, it sounds like good news. At one time in my life, I was employed in manufacturing for nearly 13 years. I can tell you, that a manufacturing facility employees a lot more people then just those working on a assembly line.
In my 13 years working at a mfg plant, I spent only about 3 months doing assembly line work . The facility I was employed at had employees in: executive/mgnt, engineers, clerical & accounting, maint mechanics & electricians, storekeepers & material handlers, quality control techs, custodians, security, even had a RN staffed medical office.

Tesla posted a profit last quarter. They are investing heavily on infrastructure, acquisitions and are growing significantly- losses are typically expected in these circumstances. With OPEC united and oil prices on the increase, and growing awareness of the importance of our environment, they will continue to do well. And, they employ 6000+ people. It's a company we should be rooting for, on multiple facets.

Looking forward to their Model 3. I've been on their early registration list for awhile now. Can't wait!

Was this a profit including tax losses and credits?

You tell me. Was it? Or for that matter how about the other auto manufactures and oil companies and their tax subsidies and government aid (research) programs that they all take advantage of?

A company that employs thousands on the merits of a new technology that betters the environment for all - a far more constructive asset to society than the outdated fossil fuel based economy. I'll support Tesla and any other company that can offer decent jobs and help improve our air and environs.
