I am going to be in the area. Last time I noticed it was difficult to get good photos from Downtown Walnut Creek and the Freeway as well as the area North of Mount Diablo in Walnut Creek.

What is the best location to get a good close up of Mount Diablo and Shell Ridge from the base near Walnut Creek?

Clayton has some really great areas to see Mount Diablo, a lot of roads travel along the base and some roads go up tall hills that have a perfect view of it

Try going higher up to the top of a parking garage or the BART station platform in WC for a good shot of Mt Diablo.

I've been there, but it was far out in the distance. I made the mistake of putting my camera on low definition. What about the hills to the West near Lafayette.

Those provide good views too but that view is even farther away from Downtown WC and what I suggested. I don't think you're really going to find anything outside of DTWC that will provide a closer view of Mt Diablo AND Shell Ridge; its pretty flat/low elevation between DTWC and Shell Ridge.

North Concord BART has a good view of both from a different angle but it's just as or farther out than the view from DTWC.

Maybe try Twin Peaks Dr in WC, my friend used to live on that street and it had great views of WC/MT Diablo on the east side of the street.

https://goo.gl/maps/6RWV4V7eEvD2 - This is the street but not the best view because Google Streetview doesn't go to the end of the street/court.

You can get a very gorgeous view of the mountains and valley at the top of a Deer Hill Rd. (same road, Bart is on, but heading towards Walnut Creek) in Lafayette (not a closeup shot though).

Just was in the area. I got the best photos of Mount Diablo from Monarch Ridge Drive on top of a hill in Lafayette.

Try the top of Chapel Drive in Lafayette.
