We need to bring back Sanitariums for the severely mentally ill.
BINGO.

Brutally expensive, but probably would not cost more than we are currently spending for homeless services, plus costs of street crime, plus the criminal justice system, plus medical treatment combined.

Even if it did cost more, we would have less drug addicts and more functioning people. There is a moral plus to that. Also we would have cleaner and safer streets. There is a moral and economic plus to that.

It is painfully obvious that the government WANTS increasing homelessness by their inactions, and their stupid actions.

1. Forced rehab never succeeds. Even voluntary rehab success rate is low.
“ 85 percent of individuals relapse within a year of treatment, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse. Moreover, two-thirds of individuals return to drug use within weeks of beginning addiction treatment.

2. Defining “normal functioning” is one of humanity’s - and especially democracy’s - greatest and most arduous debates. Good luck thinking you can resolve that through social media forum postings.

That is, frankly, a stupid conclusion to propose.

I guess all the claims about the homeless and lawlessness in downtown wasn't right wing propaganda after all. I can't believe Westfield closed shop. I've been in and out of San Francisco since 2004... pretty sad to see now is the worst it's ever been since 2004.

I'm not surprised in the least that Westfield closed. That mall was never that busy from the start. In the last 40 years, the malls in the country have gone from 2500 to 700. In 10 years it's predicted it will be down to 150. Malls are a dying breed.

Along with much of Union Square? All these excuses is what allows politicians to ignore the problem. Union Square was thriving before. Now it’s a ghost town compared to what that area used to be. That was THE place to hang out.

Amazon is your friend. They have everything, no worries about parking or traffic.

Yep, but all the blame must be on shrinkage (even though that's been debunked)

Everyone can stay home and have their stuff delivered to them. Do have to worry about going out and getting into a car collision/robbed or into some kind of confrontation especiall in SAN FRANSICKO.
