Yes... I think property taxes should only be paid at the time of purchase of the property or abolished. Having to continually pay property taxes is like having to pay rent which makes it feel like a property owner really doesn't own the property but only rents it. What if there were yearly property taxes on furniture, appliances, clothes, etc... property taxes aren't any more ridiculous, imo.

Let the state earn its money via business like the federal government is into real estate & the prison industry.

Property taxes are collected by the counties and not all of the tax revenue goes to the state. Prop 13 sets the initial amount and the amount of increases allowed annually.

I don't mind pay taxes for MY properties. It's all the other BS attached to my property tax bills that needs to be cut out.

The most efficient way to reduce that bill is to do it at the state level where the bulk of it (1%) is. The other .03%, .04%. or .05% at the local level you are not going to get rid of.

Some areas have added assessments that bump the rate by another 1/2 % or more...

My last tax bill worked out to be 1.6%

I doubt taxes will go down anytime in my lifetime even though California charges property, sales and income taxes and none of the neighboring states have all 3

I don't think you understand. The state doesn't get the 1% without passing it through to local agencies.
