When I went to pay for my items at the checkout, inquired with the cashier as to why no security guard was dealing with the shoplifter clearing the shelves in the painkiller aisle. He told me that some local resident complained the security guards in the store were intimidating and didn't like their presence there. No more security guard from that point onward and the Walgreen employees are not risking their own health and safety by direct intervention with shoplifters.
Welcome to CA.

Can't speak to other places but this is exactly my experience... when retail is gone I'm sure some will wonder why?

A grocery store employee can be terminated for engaging those shoplifting.

A great example for generations to follow... property crimes simply get a pass... help yourself.

That's their job; to be intimidating! The guard was doing his job, and for that he got fired? There's gotta be more to this story. And since when would store management take such a complaint seriously? In what form was this "complaint"? A letter from a lawyer, or just a verbal whine?

WTH?!

Are you really this obtuse all the time? You know damn well why the store backed down and let go of the guard. The race card was played.

Yep, we also had a Walgreens close down in my local area for same reason. Employees and guards are told not to do anything for fear of a lawsuit.

Welcome to the new normal.

It's a great time to be in the plywood business...

Up and down the commercial corridor plywood every block...

I hope this isn't the new normal but election night in Oakland saw a crime wave...
