What's not clear is how this will help the girls and boys (literally) who are strung out on drugs and sell their bodies on Powell and other hot spots to survive. There are a lot of gray areas in the world of prostitution and the businesses and strip clubs etc that cater to it adds another dimension. I think you have to get to the core of what's going on really - lots of hypocrisy & repression, sexual dysfunction & illness in society, child porn, molestation, drug use, etc etc. Incest and child molestation actually is a huge problem in this country and nobody wants to talk about it. It's not as simple as legalizing prostitution. I wish it were but it isn't.

Gone are the days where cortisans, sexual priestesses & healers were highly regarded and revered. That was not prostitution and I think what the law is trying to do is to go back to this ancient way of viewing sacred sex. From the standpoint of letting adults do what they want I say yeah of course. What's going on today in the world of prostitution is not about consenting adults having sex only. It runs much deeper than that. There are many levels to it with not much rehabilitation going on. If it's legalized without delving into the core, it will probably become much worse in terms of other crimes which may be committed. Just my opinion.

End "sanctuary city" status (another position that Newsom's opposed to) and a large number of them won't be on Powell, or in parts of the Mission. Not that they won't be doing the same thing in their own countries. I'm always amazed that more people don't connect the dots between illegal immigration and the illegality of prostitution, and how they're linked.

Thanks for your comments. I'm not sure where you're going with the illegal immigrant connection? There are plenty of natural born citizens prostituting themselves on the street as well. Some are even from Indiana. Imagine that. Anyway, it wasn't my point to focus on Newsom, I'm speaking about prostitution in the overall society and my thoughts on how the law in SF might play out. I think you there could be a link based on your thoughts. I think drug use is definately a big link among other things.
