There are a lot of criticisms I could level on Stockton, but being in the middle of nowhere is not one of them. Now Los Banos, that is the middle of nowhere.

I agree with sonnarat.....California is huge and there are a lot of towns that are isolated, but Stockton is not one of them. I was raised in Lodi which is near Stockton.. The good thing about that area is this: if you love 'The City', you are about an hour and a half away...... If you ski, you are about 2.5 hours from Tahoe.....

Default Is Pleasanton suburb of San Francisco or San Jose?

Pleasanton is an "East Bay" not "South Bay"(SJ)
suburb that is practically behind the Oakland Hills.

SF, because it is old enough that there was really no Silicon Valley when it started to get large. The commute is closer to parts of San Jose. Just depends on where in San Jose you have to get to. There is Ace Train to get there, or BART to SF.

Hey Konfused - I recently drove from the far-reaches of San Jose, down by Los Gatos, through Pleasanton at evening rush hour. I made it to the Bernal Avenue exit in 30 minutes flat in very heavy traffic. Pleasanton also has BART that goes to San Francisco, so it's a nice location if you are in an industry where you change jobs frequently - you would be unlikely to need to move for your next job. I hope that helps.
