I'm going to be in San Francisco for something work-related on Thursday and Friday, June 25th and 26th. Then I've got the whole weekend - Friday night, Saturday, and Sunday to enjoy the city before going back to Vermont on Monday. I'll be staying in a hotel at Union Square. I don't know the city at all, though I did visit once before, some years ago, for a similar reason.

Can anyone recommend a cool place to go hang out one of those nights - maybe a small place that has live music and a good vibe, that tourists would likely miss?

I'm a 45 year old straight male, so I'm not a kid, though I tend to be met with a cautious acceptance by the young hipsters of the world. They look at me and think "Jerry Garcia" because I've got the beard and the hair and the glasses going on.

It would be nice to know of one place like that , to see some live local music.

I looked at the website of the SF Weekly but my eyes quickly glazed over with the sheer volume of listings.

So any ideas would be greatly appreciated. In fact, if you're feeling kind of bored, feel free to plan my whole itinerary!

Thanks!
