Being relocated to Bay with company , looking for place to play beach volleyball - is there a place? Santa Cruz is beautiful, but prohibitively far to play except for, perhaps once a week.

The AVP has a tour stop in SF, and the tournament site is near the pier; do people play there? What days and times?

Going to be in SF this weekend for a relocation visit, am willing to drive around to check out any possible venues.

I'm not sure if I've seen much beach volleyball in the City proper, and what they set up for tournaments is not normally a VB court. It's tough in a big city to find spots like that. I *think* a sand VB court or two were just built on King Street near the 280 overpass where all the new condos were built just south of the ballpark. They've used some of those spots under the overpasses to build park areas with tennis courts and such, and I'm about 90 percent sure there are sand courts there. If you're looking for a real beach where people play, you might find some people during peak summer season at Stinson Beach in Marin County, but even that's a bit remote, and there are no designated courts -- people just set up their nets wherever. Between SF and Santa Cruz, there just aren't a lot of heavily populated beaches (probably b/c of the foggy microclimate), so all in all, the whole Santa Cruz area is your best bet for serious and extensive play. Good luck!
