When did people from Massachusetts start coming to Bay Area (I've been noticing this lately) is this a new phenomenon?

My family moved here from MA in Fall of this past year. Really it was coincidental. Not anything that was planned or dreamed about. Job changes sometimes creates unforeseen opportunities.
So far so good.
What made you notice this trend?

License plates, construction workers and at parks, dead give away are the Red Sox hats. But I was wondering if this is something new or it's been going on?

I just moved from Massachusetts because the business I work for moved to the Berkeley area, and I was perfectly willing and happy to follow my job. I have definitely noticed this trend. It might be coincidental, I'm not sure. But it might be because a lot of M*ssholes are for some reason obsessed with San Francisco. Massachusetts is full of hippies and I suspect that is why so many are attracted to a city like San Francisco, famous for being extremely liberal, diverse and progressive. My friends back home are all completely jealous of me.

I've only been here a month and have met several people who had made the exact same move I just did. They all moved different years, so this must not be a new phenomenon.

I'm a MA transplant from 1989. We sure don't have anything like the T here, but I've come to love my adoptive land.

I was going to say since the gold rush (gold and internet gold rush) but seriously. I moved from MA to CA in 1992. At that time I met a lot of people from MA and CT. I don't know if it's anything really new.
