And lord have mercy about San Diego wages. It is absolutely unreal how low the pay is here for (professional folks too!) and suppose we just did not expect that.

I have worked on an off from San Jose in tech and my job is tech related. So I somewhat understand the bay area. But you know, moving is just a pain in rear and I'd like to avoid bad surprises as best I can. I don't mind paying alot if you can do well to afford it. If you pay alot and aren't allowed to do well, that's another story.

Thanks all for the advise. I think diverse groups and the wisdom of a crowd can be helpful.

Wow, I need more information to give my recommendation. I lived in San Diego for a few years and loved it. The beaches and laid back attitude makes me want to go back. San Diego is probably one of the most beautiful places in America. "Moving to San Francisco" is a lot different than working in San Francisco and living in one of the many suburbs. The Bay Area has a lot to offer, but if you're planning on raising a family with traditional family values I would think twice. It really depends on your family situation, political beliefs, etc. Most of the people I grew up with moved out of state and have no regrets. There are a lot of jobs up here and the weather is great, that's for sure.
